The Centre of Indian culture studies is a government research group, studying Indian culture and their way of life before it gets too polluted by western influence.

Although it has an office next to the university (which it cooperates with on occasion) and employs a dozen or so anthropologists, usually you can only reach their answering machine. Most of the time, the anthropologists work in the field, travelling between the indian settlements, observing their way of life, interviewing old people and so on.

The staff has no real pressure to produce results, so they use their time to research the areas that they each feel personally most interested in, which is sometimes somewhat off the mainstream anthropology they are supposed to do.
