The old mine lies by the foot of the western mountain range. The entrance to the mine itself is blocked by a locked door for security reasons and the entire area is fenced in.

Outside the fence, on both sides of the road leading to the facility, are huge mounds of stone removed from the mine. These go all the way around the facility, up to the mountainside, almost giving the impression of a fortress. Outside the heaps of stone is a short road leading into the forest. It leads to the old cemetery, where most of the victims of the mine are buried. The graves are simple, usually just a wooden cross with a name. The entire area is now overgrown and unkept.

Inside the fence are several buildings, the largest being the old machine halls and stone crushers. All the machinery was sold when the mine shut down, so it is now mostly large empty buildings in severe need of repair.

Another large building is the old hospital. Its oldest part is a two floor building, but new buildings has been added to it as it grew, so now it is a fairly complex group of a half dozen buildings grown together. It was not a very modern hospital even at the time it was closed down, so much of the old equipment is still where it was left in 1948. The place is in bad condition and is a dark and gloomy place. Old people say that you were born here, went into the mine, died here and then went to the cemetery and that’s all there was to life in the old days.

There are also several barracks, tool sheds and some administration buildings, most of them more or less empty, but some old furniture remains.

The entire area reeks of gloom and even teenagers on drugs avoid going here.
