The university has 1200 students. As the name suggests, the education is centered on the forest, environmental effects, logging, animal life and so on.

There is also a lot of research going on, most of it funded by the big forest companies, but also by the government. Typical research projects is to map the spread of parasitical insects, develop tougher strains of trees, determine the effects of different insecticides, the long term effects of different kinds of logging or statistical methods of effective fighting of forest fires. Much of the research is performed in the field in the deep, untouched forests north of Razor Ridge.

The university is only 15 years old, but has had a big positive influence on the city, economically and as a way to get young people to move to Razor Ridge. Before the university, Razor Ridge was a place which young people moved from, not to, but the university and the skiing facilities have changed this.
