In your hands is a book which is said to require the game Generica. What is Generica?

Generica is a roleplaying game. We'll go into what that means in a minute. A more important question would be the following: There are hundreds of roleplaying games. Why Generica, what makes it different from the rest?

  • Generica is designed to be generic. It should be able to handle most game worlds without problems. It should also be able to interface with other games without problems, borrowing game mechanisms or scenarios between the systems.
  • Generica is customisable. It is designed from the bottom up with customisation in mind. There are very few cross-dependencies and the basic game mechanisms are very simple to use and adapt.
  • Generica is open. You can use it as a base for your own games, modifying it to suit your needs, pick small parts from it or all of it, even redistribute it. To make it even easier, Generica is available in electronic form, making it even easier to edit and modify.
  • Generica is easy. One of the main goals has been to make the rules non-surprising to experienced players. They draw upon many tested and proven mechanisms, but extend them and improve them. Think of it as the pick of the litter, which has then been supercharged. At no point has a decision to include something into the rules been made on the sole reason that it is new or different.
  • Generica is free. You can't get better value for money than that.
  • Generica is fast and streamlined. Even though it provide plenty of details, all time consuming tasks has been put outside the action, most of them is done at character creation. The basic rule mechanisms are created as to require a minimum of calculations and table references. The organised structure of the rules makes it easier to find what you need quickly.
  • Generica is tweakable. It has several settings that you can change to alter the style of the game. If you want realism, it can handle that. If you want dramatic cinematic Hong Kong action, it can handle that too, just by tweaking a few settings.
  • Generica focuses on roleplaying. Even though it has a solid rule core, the roleplaying aspect of the game is never forgotten, in fact, the rules actively support and enhance it.

That is all good and dandy, but what does it add up to?

Simply put, Generica is a fast, easy, solid, working game that you can play your way or use as a base or a part in your own games. Generica should cover most of your gaming needs. Most important, Generica is fun!
